- Sex and The City
-
Last night, in typical Sex and the City fashion, myself and three girlfriends went to see the Sex and The City Movie. Though we might be described as Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte, by no means were we dressed like them.
As we left our Relay for Life (not an overnight secondary to rain/thunder) we thought it would be a perfect night to go see the hottest chick flick on the market in a long time. Donning our beautiful Relay for Life t-shirts, capri jeans and flip flops (Carrie would not be caught dead in), we went to pick up tickets before the show. Having time to kill, Amy and Stacey suggested a bar, but Barri and I won with the diner. Though not exactly stylish, I would definitely not be seen at a bar wearing this outfit. I also thought it was more appropriate to go to a diner like "the girls" would. We behaved almost as typically as them. We drank coffee (well Amy and Stacey had their beer anyway-3 points), ate a "monkey" of onion rings (don't ask what a monkey is- we are still not sure) and had major girl talk. Beginning with Weight Watchers and hitting the gamut of gossip.
Next the movie. What I found the most interesting was not that it was mostly women- but the men who actually went to see it. My husband would have had to lose some bet to go see this movie. The man behind me seemed to fidget a lot. I guess he did not want to be there. I enjoyed the previews, which were mostly chick flicks. The best was a movie coming out soon with Richard Gere. He plays a guy who's wife left him etc. He hooks up with Diane Lane yet again who is separated from her no good dweeb husband- the guy who plays Elliot from Law and Order. Then, they show too much of the movie and you see her deciding between the two. Yeah, OK let me see here- Richard Gere or nerd boy? Tough decision. Barri and I could argue this point for days- but you can make your own decision. Richard Gere is made for rolls like Pretty Woman, American Gigolo, and an Officer and a Gentleman.
Now for the feature film. For those of you who have not run out and seen this movie, I will not give anything away. When the movie first begun, it was like seeing an old friend. You don't realize how much you miss them and let alone think of them as real people. The movie is quite long (but not as torturous) as Speed Racer. It did drag at a certain point. It was a bit predictable- which did not happen on the TV show. Jennifer Hudson was completely unnecessary- I felt they threw her in- to say "hey- it is not exactly the same as the series".
As for the fashion- I loved seeing all the cool clothes. There was a scene when Carrie tries on old clothes from her closet and it was so much fun to see outfits from years past. I was a little disappointed in the way Charlotte dressed- they made her way too matronly by the end. Carrie wore all her funky shoes, big flowers and even a bird in her hair. They covered it all. She was wearing an adorable sun dress in one scene that looked sought of Tye Dye, which I will have to hunt down and try to find. Lots of great accessories too. Lots of designer bags and big earings. Also Carrie's new closet was amazing. Make mental note to clean and organize my messy closet.
As for hair, Carrie had blond hair, streaked blond/brown and hair and was a brunette for a while too. All the ladies held up pretty well too. Samantha made some reference's to botox, but they all looked great. I paid special attention to their makeup. They all had natural looking skin makeup. No heavyfoundation or blush. Light and Flawless. I did noticed they wore a lot of eye liner. They lined the tops and bottoms of the eyes with dark colors. Carrie wore a light shimmery eye shadow, very similar toLoose Lips New York's color Delight, with a lighter highlighter, like Dazzle under the brow. Looked young and great without being too trendy.
If you saw the movie- let me know what you thought. Until the sequel-
Sherry B.
